PROGRAMME OVERVIEW The Sprinng Literary Movement Fellowship is an intensive 4-6 weeks online mentorship programme.
This fellowship is for developing writers with great potential and willingness to learn. It is strictly for Nigerian writers between the ages of 16-25 who reside in Nigeria, and have not published a book (eBook/hardcopy). In January 2018, 9 writers were selected to be mentees and in August 2018,20 writers were selected into the fellowship.
This programme focuses on 5 genres/aspects of writing and literature: Poetry, Fiction, Essays, Book Review, Play/Drama and Blogging. During the 4-6 weeks, mentees will be in contact with their mentors, sending them their works, getting reviews, tips, and commentaries. Mentors and mentees will aim to work on at least 2 works (poems/short stories/essays/book reviews/blog posts/Plays) per week. The medium of communication between the mentors and their mentees throughout this programme will be via email, phone calls, whatsApp and text messages.
ELIGIBILITY TO BE A MENTEE FOR THE WRITING FELLOWSHIP - Must be a Nigerian citizen, residing in Nigeria - Must be between the ages 16-25 - Only open to writers that have not published a book before (eBook/hardcopy)
WHY A WRITING FELLOWSHIP? This programme was created to fulfill our promise to Nigerian writers as stated on the Sprinng Literary Movement Agenda. We aim to resuscitate the lost culture of literary criticism which magnifies Literature’s glamour and to generate new equivalents of Wole Soyinka, Chris Okigbo, Buchi Emecheta, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and D.O Fagunwa.

Programme Timeline for 2019 January 15 – April 15: Application opens and closes (2019 Mentors will be announced between February and April.) April 15 - May 15: Application submissions will be reviewed by the SLM Team May 15: Finalists will be notified May 21: Mentees and mentors will be paired The Fellowship June 1 – July 15: Fellowship Programme The mentorship programme is normally designed to take place over 3 - 4 week period (June 1 - 30). However, in our last cohort, we had a lot of positive feedback with requests to expand the mentorship programme beyond the allotted weeks. Therefore, a grace period of two weeks (July 1 - July 15) has been added for any mentor who is interested in extending the programme beyond 3 - 4 weeks.
July 15 – 20: Programme rounds up. August: Mentees profiles and programme reports will be released.

SELECTION CRITERIA We are searching for Nigerian writers who are goal-oriented and have the potential to develop. In selecting the mentees for the programme we will consider the following:
Writers with POTENTIAL: Applicants must have basic writing skills but show the potential to develop. This programme is for writers who need guidance to develop.
Writers who are OPEN MINDED: Applicants must demonstrate the will to receive constructive feedback.
Writers that are AMBITIOUS: Applicants must show passion and interest in developing their writings.
