The Two Sides by Evelyn Nana Ama Asare

Picture
main aim and main game
war and truce
train and wait

the mission of absolutism
a posteriori

affliction engages
absurd situations
true complications
misfortunes of ages

a mystery untold
a subject untackled
a name unmentioned
a victim unknown

deux et Vous

qui est nécessaire?
La même encore
C’est deux !

Choisir un entre le deux
Choose one between the two
Decide freely
Don’t be a tool

A posteriori
A mission unaccomplished

Define and I will suggest
Admit and I will oppose
Friction is mere fiction
Realism beats no naturalism

The two sides are minuet
They are the dreams unfulfilled
pains and travails
tears we shed

The two sides are the yesterday
They are the today
conviction to achieve
momentum we believe

the two sides
conditions and reality
embedded in us
our choices

like lawyers we defend our client,
ourselves
would we win?
Would we lose?

Although I like poetry, I think that this poem tried to capture too many things using complicated language that the readers may miss the point which is life having two sides in many aspects. Complex language makes your reading slightly unrelatable to an average poetry reader. Also, I think that you did not need to have too many examples of two sides to things to drive to one point, its reads overly repetitive. You could have creatively told a prose poetry to state the same thing. But well done.

At first I was a bit confused, taken aback by the use of words that seemed to make the poem complex. But then I see that the repetition of words with similar meanings may have been in order to drive home the points she was trying to drive home. It all, though it could have been simpler, it was a good read
