By Faniyi Oluwatomiwa Elijah My heart skipped a beat When I felt a cleaving in my mind As if my mind split into bits I tried to match it seam by seam But couldn't make them fit. I was seated by the graspy river bank When I strived to join my thoughts together But sequence was out of reach Even the first among all thought Evaporated and fizzled into thin air. Trapped between memories and anxiety A smile wilting on the pavement of my lips What if rain misses her flight And the dew misses the train Will the garden of my mind experience drought? My head is like a talking drum Clutched in the armpit of a drummer How can I dance to my own music? My scars remind me of life When it tried to break me, but failed. ![]() Writer's Biography Faniyi Oluwatomiwa Elijah, popularly known as Tommy Brian, is a young, ambitious, and prolific Nigerian poet cum writer.
