SPRINNG LITERARY MOVEMENT
Incense written by Tega Tivere Ohwerhoye
In our war
I am but a burning postcard
Waiting on the whistlings of home
To bring my ash and scent to you
But if flags are not raised before dawn
You'll find specks of me
In the corners of your mouth
Warmer than summer memories in January.
"Of Mother Africa's mothering" by Damilola Popoola
A cup of
Alabaru by Laolu Poe Alani
an alabaru pesters a sullen woman in Lafenwa market.
let me help you carry this. let me help you carry that.
once. twice. thrice.
the woman explodes --
you do not see the weight I need borne.
you cannot bear the weight I need lifted.
An alabaru is someone that helps others either at the market
or at motor parks to carry their load for a meager fee.
WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 2017
