I AM STRONG

Picture
By Gimbiya Galadima
permit me to say these words
even if my mouth chooses betrayal
and my lips quiver

on days when tears fill my eyes
when joy fills my heart
strength is mine to claim
at any time or place
when all is well
and if things go wrong
I am strong
capable of understanding my emotions
running without being held down
with feelings like a lorry full of cows

able to cry, then believe all will be fine
able to laugh at myself and with others
my strength comes from a soft place
the ability to not just say, “I am fine”
to stay true to my emotions and not lie.

Thank you so much Gimbiya Galadima. These words of encouragement are so needed in our world today where both young and old walk the streets with fear in their mouths and hearts, unsure of where the next bullet will spring out from. I AM STRONG!

The writer leaves us with no imagination but great understanding that in reality when faced with hurdles of life we are not deterred because hurdles don't define us.

Gimbiya Galadima, I must say, this is telepathic. As humans, we must learn how to be open to bad times as we are to good times. Facing every situation bravely and unwavering. Indeed, to be able to live through ups and downs without staying down is great strength. And we all need such strength in Nigeria.

The writer simply chose to embrace strength, even in the midst of uncertainties and extremes. The diction is simple, straight, void of deep emotions (as against what it should be), which is what he/she should work on.

This is indeed therapeutic. Let the weak say, "I am strong." If we can all imbibe this spirit, there will be reduction of suicides in our society.

More ink to your pen, Gimbiya.

Style reminds me of e.e cummings, who wrote all his poems without caps. Disorienting at first, but quite pleasing to look at when you get used to it. Strong poem, Gimbiya 🙌

I have to admit. The choice of words are next to non. I could literally feel unified with the write up. The art and style is magnanimous. Greatly woven.

This piece depicts inner strength and resilience that can never be shaken despite tough outward situations. 🙂

The poem is well written. It teaches me that strength is drawn when a person understand himself or herself inwardly and keeps on hoping that things will get better and better. Thanks

Bravo...what a wonderful poem

"strength is mine to claim
at any time or place
when all is well
and if things go wrong
I am strong"

This part really hit me... this makes me feel that we are stronger than we think. situations that we face don't have control over us, we chiise how we react because we are strong. The poem also emits encouragement and strength to it's reading ambience.

The depth of every single words is enriching in emotions. Finding inner strength is a daily struggle and the poem depicts in it own way how to go about it.
Regardless... "I am strong"

This piep sums up how the writer is able to control and flow with her emotions despite how opposing it can be. Processing and channeling these feelings in their right places.

The writer wrote from a perspective of overflowing emotions: pain, happiness, sadness, joy. She's allowing herself feel all there is to feel, both on days she's capable of and on days she's falling short, she's able to navigate these feelings, and that, I must say, counts a lot.

I don't think there's anything better than being true to yourself when it comes to emotions. It helps us a long way in making necessary adjustments and become competent in handling various hurdles of life without being weighted down or negatively affected.
