Her Pain By Ade Lero

1/5/2018

Reeks and Creeks in my vessels
Malfunction from my marrow
The agony of nature
Pain
It's a war
Between sickle-shaped weapons
And doughnut-shaped shields
More Pain

"The agony of nature"

There's so much in this one line, there's the whole poem in this one line - how pain is natural to some, how pain is indeed an identity for some. And I say 'some" because I'm extending the bracket beyond sickle cell patients. Great line!

This poem resonates deeply with me considering I recently lost my friend who was a sickled cell patient.
I love how you described the science that happens in the SS patient to WORDs anyone can easily relate to.
