FREEDOM IS A MYTH by Rahma Oluwaremilekun Jimoh

Picture
freedom is a myth
& this home is a cage
we are birds nestled indoors
we sing and flock our feathers
but this home is a cage
for peacocks like us
the cage has been long-locked
by the bats and owls who
howls and scowls
as they squander our lots
the lock has been digested
in the bowels of a shark.

you want freedom?
so they release you to the air
but the air has been polluted
can you see? how your feathers fall off
one after another, soon you're
featherless and maybe fatherless
as freedom is a myth
& this home is a cage.

This poem just reminds me of us what we already know that we cannot do anything but try to thrive especially in this time when the world is choking with more bad than good.
My favourite line has to be " you want freedom?
so they release you to the air
but the air has been polluted
can you see? "
This poem is the truth in so many helpless ways. Something one way or another is trying to steal life and freedom from us but I will borrow the words of Lucille Clifton to say " everyday something has tried to kill me and has failed"

What this literally mean to me is that, at times you go our side as from your freedom, it can be hard, they can be hurdles, obstacles and others like that. - " you want freedom?
so they release you to the air
but the air has been polluted"
So we just have to explore and give a try for success. No matter how hard it will be.

It signifies life in cagey situation whereas the choice to be free is rather a danger in the garden.
