Assault By Babatunde Aishat

Like a lion awaits its prey, he lurched with a foggy shadow
His stride impulsively became vociferous, hers qualm
Under the fetter of his sunken eyes, she grew cold feet
As if the earth had suddenly turned ice, her feet could not wear the sand of distance
He surged forward to devour her as though she was his to ravish
Son of Cain pinned her to earth!
Relished his savage war on her to feed his lust
Having received canal knowledge, ever shattered was her life.

This poem was a submission received for SLM 2017 Poetry Contest.
Information about SLM 2018 Poetry Contest will be announced soon.

Sigh. The weight between our legs. Why can't we be women in peace?

The line "ever shattered was her life" got me asking; Do we victims ever recover from rape?

The one word that describes what I just read is PAIN.
The poet gets the reader feeling the pain just by reading through the lines.
Brief and straight to the point.
